## Definition

Total supply is the cap on how many units of a coin or token can ever be created. Bitcoin's total supply is 21 million. Some tokens have no fixed cap and instead issue new units over time.

A big gap between circulating supply and total supply is a signal to look at the vesting schedule. New tokens entering the market over time can push the price down even if interest in the project is steady.
